Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis:
"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.
It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

I feel like such an idiot to have waited for so long to continue reading this series! This book was amazing and even better than the first. It was action-packed which should be no surprise considering the main character, Celaena, is continuing to reek havoc on anyone who dares to cross her. This book leaves off where the Throne of Glass left off. Celaena has been tasked with ridding the king of his enemies by bringing him the head of each of his enemies/those that would oppose him.
Once I began reading this book, I had a hard time putting it down. The book begins with Celaena bringing the king a head and hand of one of his enemies that she was sent to dispatch and from there the book takes so many twists and turns. There are so many things that the author reveals in this book that it makes me wonder where she is planning to take the next book. I have a feeling that things are going to be explosive. Celaena's true identity is revealed as well as portions of the king's plan and where his power derives from. Relationships were tested and so were the loyalties of each and every one of the characters. Sarah J. Maas also reveals more background about other characters as well as secrets that that are hiding. Let's just say that you may not be rooting for the same man to win Celaena's affection after reading this book. Sarah J. Maas is a master of weaving stories in a way that makes them addicting and leaves you wanting more. If you have not read this book or even started the series then I highly recommend that you do! I would suggest that you start with The Assassin's Blade, novellas that take place before Throne of Glass, in order to understand where Celaena has learned to fight as well as to familiarize yourself with characters that may be mentioned in Crown of Midnight from it.

  2. This book ripped my heart out, stomped on it, peed on it, and set it on fire! Luckily the series starts to put it back together.

  3. I've heard that in the next couple books that things start to go well for the main characters but that crap starts to hit the fan again in the fifth book. I'm excited but nervous to read the rest of the series.
