Three Blind Dates by Meghan Quinn

🌟🌟🌟🌟 out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis:
"Good Morning Malibu, it’s another beautiful day on the west coast! I'm Noely Clark, your host: and I'm in the market for love…”

When the publicity team of the new local restaurant, Going in Blind, began their search for a hot, local celebrity to promote the wildly popular eatery, they couldn’t have found a better person than me.

Outgoing? Check.
Single? Check.
Open to finding love? Check.

I signed up immediately.

A hopeless romantic with an exceedingly demanding schedule, I've found it impossible to find the man of my dreams—so Going in Blind seems too good to be true! That’s until they start setting me up on dates—three very different, very attractive, very distinct blind dates—and only one thing is for certain . . .
I’m in big trouble.

Good Morning Malibu,
I'm Noely Clark, and I have a choice to make.
The question is who will I choose; the suit, the rebel, or the jock.

I have read and loved other books that Meghan Quinn has written so I knew without even reading the blurb for this one that I wanted to read it. Having said that, the blurb did intrigue me considering I love the movie You've Got Mail. I was interested in seeing how the author would take that idea and write a story inspired by it.
I love Meghan Quinn's particular brand of humor! I feel like she understands how to inject humor appropriately into situations between people, within family units, and with the main character themselves. I find that I particularly enjoy the comedy that she puts in her novels when family members are interacting with each other. It feels so realistic that it seems like she may have experienced some of the conversations/situations within her own family. I love how she is able to balance romance with the comedy with neither overpowering the other and without the humor being too smutty or overly sexual in nature.
I feel like the book focused too much on You've Got Mail. It was talked about constantly which got old pretty fast.I also thought that it leaned a bit too much towards the plot of the movie. I wanted to see her take the idea and put a twist on it which she did but I feel that she could have gone further with it. I liked the characters and found Noely to be vulnerable but feisty in her personality as well as her pursuit of love. I really felt for her and what she was going through in her dating life. I think that we have all, at some point, hit a dating rut. It can be frustrating! I found two of the three men that she went on blind dates with to be a bit bland but the author did manage to make them all very different. I liked how she didn't take the typical approach with stereotypes as far as businessmen, jocks, and rebels go. The rebel had a bit of a softer side and the jock was more of a boy next door. I also liked how the author made the businessman have a life rather than being wrapped up in his work.
The progression of the story was well done with the pacing being just right. I wasn't sure how the author was going to go about having Noely date three men. I thought that it was interesting how she had her move from one man to the next rather than dating them all in the same time period.

A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3) by Sarah J. Maas

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Synopsis:
Looming war threatens all Feyre holds dear in the third volume of the #1 New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's manoeuvrings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit – and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords – and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the earth will be painted red as mighty armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy them all.

Wow! This was such an epic conclusion to the trilogy! I have to say that A Court of Wings and Ruin was by far my favorite of the three because everything that the other two books are laying the groundwork for take place in this book. There are battles filled with tension wherein you don't know if the characters that you love will survive to fight another day. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! I did think that one of the fights which took place between the king and another character was a bit anti-climatic after all of the build up towards who would fight him and who would come out on top. I also thought that the end was a bit too pretty and neat for a trilogy that dealt with so many enemies and battles. Please don't misunderstand...the battles were well done. They were brutal with death and destruction happening on both sides, one more so than the other. I loved these parts of the book the most! I didn't mind it as much but I could see how some might find it annoying. I thought that the development of the characters was done really well and loved how they each ended up by the end. I also liked the author's choice to not have every character paired up or in a relationship by the end even though some relationships were hinted at.

BLURB
“You promised me forever: You lied.”

Tia was five years old when she fell in love with Atticus Kraus. She didn’t care about the castle he lived in, that he was the heir to a vast empire, or that she was the daughter of his housekeeper. She cared about the boy who made her smile, the boy who defied his mother to make her his friend, and the boy who made her feel less alone.

Atticus made it crystal clear her place was right beside him—in play, in life, and in love. He promised her forever, and she promised to wait…

As she turns eighteen Tia is excited with the plans she’s made with her first love and soul mate. Her studies at a top college will ensure she finally moves away from Atticus’s judgemental family and her own toxic mother. With Atticus at her side, she feels the first sense of true happiness.
When suddenly accused and found guilty of stealing a Kraus family heirloom, Tia is sentenced to six years in prison, and her world falls apart. Abandoned and betrayed, this is just the beginning of her nightmare, as once again she finds herself very much alone. How could this happen?
Prison changes her, but it also gives her time: time to forge new friendships, time to learn new skills, and time to plan her revenge. Her life was destroyed by Wicked Little Games, and she knows exactly who’s going to pay…

I thought that the beginning of the book was intriguing. The author was able to pull me into the story right away but then began to lose me after that due to the story becoming fairly slow paced and repetitive with its information. I felt like I was being told the same tidbits of information over and over again which didn't further the plot. I get it! Tia spent time in prison and she wants revenge on the people that betrayed her! I found this book so frustrating because it said a lot while saying very little. I still have no idea what is going on with anyone or anything after finishing it. I felt like all of the characters were so hot and cold to the point that I couldn't comprehend what their motivations were or their place in everything. I didn't really like any of the characters because their flaws far outweighed any good qualities that they may or may not have had. I understand that there is a part two to this so I hope that it shows improvement and actually answers some questions.

Stud in the Stacks by Pippa Grant

🌟🌟 out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

BLURB
When it comes to women, I know what they want. And all day long, I give it to them. Dark, broody, and sexy? You got it. Need to laugh? I’m your guy. Desperate for something to put you in the mood? You’ve come to the right place, kitten.

Every morning when my library opens, there’s a line around the block, the ladies flocking to me in need of their next book boyfriend. I’m that dude. The one who knows his way around the romance section. And if you think that hasn’t gotten me plenty of action over the years, you’d be wrong.

But I've made a few miscalculations, and now my reputation has my job in danger. If I can’t prove to my boss that I’m more than a playboy who recommends romance in the hopes of getting some hanky panky in the stacks, I can kiss my job goodbye.

Stud in the Stacks is a sexy, hilarious, sometimes embarrassing romantic comedy told in both points of view, complete with tacos, romance novel love, and unicorn parties with no cheating or cliffhangers.

Even though it’s been six years since I stripped for a roomful of women, I’m pleased to report my loincloth still fits in all the right places. Tad more snug in front than I remember, but if I had to grow, might as well be in the junk.
I give the elastic one last test as the producer signals that I’m up. Spider-Man gives me a fist bump. Thor smacks my ass. They’re the last two bachelors going up on the block after me in tonight’s superhero-themed auction.
There are some who might say Tarzan isn’t a superhero, but Jane would beg to differ.
And I fucking own this costume.
Plus, if no one else bids on me, my Nana’s right up front, ready to throw down the hundred bucks I slipped her before the show.
I’m hoping for a little higher than that though. Batman just went for a cool five grand.
Batman was a dick, which I assume my Nana didn’t know when she started the bidding on him. A grade-A, condescending asshat who thought just because he had a few million bucks in the bank, he could call people gay like that’s an insult and take a metaphorical shit on my favorite books.
I fucking want to beat Batman.

I loved the characters in this book! They were really the driving forces in this story regardless of the plot and certain ahem scenes. They were each different from what I have seen in books before although Parker was similar to characters I have seen before. She was awkward and had an issue with spewing word vomit when she was uncomfortable. I felt that she was neurotic about certain areas of her life and a workaholic but also genuine and kind. I thought that Knox was refreshingly unique. He had a love of romance books and was more brain than brawn. He had a good sense of humor and was able to laugh at himself and situations that were uncomfortable. Despite being a bit of a player, I found him to be an extremely likable character which is not always the case for me.
I wish that there would have been more to the story and relationship between Parker and Knox. I found both of these areas of the book to be lacking. I wanted there to be more to the story than each of them needing someone else to make the other look good in order to save their jobs. I've read this type of story before and it is nothing new. There are no unique details that make it any different from any of book with this story line. I also wanted more from the relationship between Parker and Knox. I felt like all I had to go on was the sexual chemistry that existed between the two of them. I wanted them to have deeper conversations about their lives and feelings rather than them just doing the nasty every time they were together.
I thought that some of the humor was okay but I felt like I was reading some of the same jokes over and over which got old really quickly. There were other humorous parts of the book but I honestly didn't get the jokes. It is either that or I just didn't find them funny. It's possible that I just don't appreciate the same type of humor that the author does.

Dirty Deeds by Stella Rhys

ALY
It’s been twelve years since I’ve seen him, but loathing Emmett Hoult still runs in my blood. Thanks to the hell he wreaked on my teenaged life, I’ve avoided the prick like the plague. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and after a fire destroys my apartment during the most important week of my life, I’m suddenly as desperate as they come.
Hence the roommate situation.
It’s his summer home. His family said he wouldn’t be around. They said I’d never run into him.
But oh, did I run into Emmett Hoult.
And in the worst way possible.

EMMETT
I didn’t expect to see her ever again, let alone the way I did.
But now that she’s back in my life, I’m not screwing things up. She still hates me – I know that – but it won’t stop me from chasing the only two goals I’ve made for this summer:
Making things right.
And making her mine.

I appreciated that the author didn't wrap everything up with a bow in the story. She left some things messy which is more realistic because no one has a perfect life where everything works out in every aspect of their lives. I thought that the reveal about what Emmett was hiding was a bit anticlimactic. Plus, it wasn't even hinted at very much throughout the story but all of the sudden Emmett had something that he didn't want Aly to know. I think that the author should be applauded for writing something different with regards to the reveal of the secret because it was not the typical secret that is usually done within the romance genre. I did think that it was a bit convenient that a grudge that the main character had been holding ended with one conversation with someone else.
Everything happened very quickly between Emmett and Aly within the context of their relationship which bothered me somewhat but it is established that they grew up together.
I'm not exactly sure why Aly's friend's relationship was such a focus in the book. It seemed like an unneeded distraction to me.

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2) by Sarah J. Maas

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis:
Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

With more than a million copies sold of her beloved Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas's masterful storytelling brings this second book in her seductive and action-packed series to new heights.

A Court of Mist and Fury picks up right where the previous book left off. I appreciated the fact that Sarah J. Maas was not shy about showing how the events of the previous book affected each and every one of the characters. Feyre is having difficulty coping with every decision that she was forced to make during the bargain that she made with Amaratha and the author did not have Feyre recover quickly.
We get to learn more about Rhysand and the Night Court in this book due to the deal that Feyre made with him wherein she has to spend a certain amount of time with him every month. I enjoyed learning more about him because I honestly came to really like him as a character in A Court of Thorns and Roses. I didn't see him as a bad guy but rather as a cunning good guy who knew how to play the game.
I didn't see many of the twists and turns coming over the course of the book. I was especially surprised towards the end of the book when things went crazy and characters made some decisions/bargains that I didn't see coming. When will people learn not to make bargains with fairies...even with each other? You think that they would know better especially if it was someone that was not to be trusted in the first place. There are changes and growth that happen with many of the characters, one of which I hope is explained in more detail in the next book. I loved all of the character arcs and enjoyed getting to meet some new characters in this book. I loved all of them which doesn't happen to me often with books. Overall, this was a dynamite sequel and I can't wait to read the next book!

Busted by Gina Ciocca

🌟🌟🌗 out of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Blurb:
Catching cheaters and liars is a lucrative hobby—until you fall for one of the suspects. Perfect for fans of Veronica Mars, this new novel from the author of Last Year’s Mistake will steal your heart!

Marisa never planned to be a snoop for hire. It wasn’t like she wanted to catch her best friend’s boyfriend making out with another girl. But as her reputation for sniffing out cheaters spreads all over school, Marisa finds herself the reluctant queen of busting two-timing boys.

And her next case? It’s for ex-frenemy Kendall. She’s convinced her boyfriend, TJ, has feelings for someone else and persuades Marissa to start spying on him. But the more Marisa gets to know sincere and artistic TJ, the more she starts to fall for him. Worse yet, the feelings seem to be mutual. Marisa knows she needs to give up her investigation—and the spoken-for guy who may just be the love of her life. Then she uncovers new secrets about Kendall and TJ, secrets that take “cheater” to a whole new level…

Gina Ciocca graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in English, but in her mind, she never left high school. She relocated from Connecticut to Georgia, where she lives with her husband and son. When she's not reading or writing, you can find her taking long walks around the lake in her neighborhood. Gina can also be found online at writersblog-gina.blogspot.com, on Instagram as gmciocca, and Twitter as gmc511.

*I received this copy from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
Busted had an almost Veronica Mars feel to it. Marisa initially just wanted to do what she could to help a friend but when word spread it became bigger than she could have imagined. I didn't love Marisa. I found her to be far too gullible for someone that is supposed to be jaded by her past experiences with friends and ex-boyfriends. I feel like she should have been able to see what was right in front of her face the whole time.
I thought that the story was predictable. I saw everything that was revealed from a mile away. I wasn't surprised by anything that happened because I felt that the author made everything too obvious. I would have liked for Gina Ciocca to hint about things like pasts with other characters more so than doing things this way.

Marisa’s Top 5 Tips For Sleuthing:
Hey there. Marisa Palmera, Private Eye here. Okay, so I don’t actually call myself that, and neither does anyone else. In fact, I never meant to become a sleuth-for-hire. But spend one night scaling your best-friend’s boyfriend’s house to take incriminating pictures, and suddenly everyone wants you to be something you’re not…and when they’re willing to line your sadly lacking pockets for it, it doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.
So, should you find yourself an unwitting Girl Friday (or even a witting one... Is “witting” a thing?) like I did, here are some tips that just may save your butt:
  1. Always have a camera handy. Whether it’s your cell phone, or the fancy camera you borrowed from your school’s yearbook club, you never know when you’ll need to snap an evidence shot. Just, um, make sure you turn off the flash if said camera is aimed through a window into a dark living room. I may have learned this the hard way.
  2. Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. Sounds ominous and dramatic, I know. But if someone gives you the vibe that they shouldn’t be let out of your sight? GO WITH IT.
  3. Think fast. Suck at lying? Me too. Get over it, because you’ll be fudging the truth a lot.
  4. But know when to say no. Weave enough white lies, and suddenly they’re a sticky, tangled web with you trapped inside. Know when it’s time to run, and do it like the flames of hell are licking your feet.
  5. Don’t fall for the person you’re investigating. Yeah. You’re just gonna have to do as I say and not as I do on this one. Oops.

Hey, Marisa.”
I slammed my locker a little harder than I meant to at the sound of TJ’s voice. Who knew being a stalker would make me so jumpy? I pasted a smile on my face.
“Hey, what’s up?”
TJ flashed a huge grin. “I finished it this weekend.” He moved his hand from behind his back and held out a black leather belt dotted with silver studs. It was totally gorgeous, and one hundred percent badass at the same time.
“I love it!” I cried, instantly forgetting to regard him as Shady McShadeballs. I took the belt and slid it through the loops of my jeans, loving that it complemented my green shirt, matching flats, and silver jewelry. “What do I owe you?”
TJ scoffed. “You don’t owe me anything.”
“No! I can’t take this for nothing. I have to give you something for it, please?”
The corner of his mouth turned up. “You can take my place interviewing Mr. Crossley about the Math League after school today if you want. I’ll even let you write my article.”
I smiled back. “Nice try. How about this – I’ll take the belt, but only if you let me order some more of your stuff for the holidays and pay you for it. Deal?”
The locker behind me slammed and the skin on my neck crawled. I whipped around, knowing exactly who would be standing there, and the daggers were already shooting from my eyes before I’d even completed my rotation. The ice in my glare could’ve turned the hallway into a skating rink. TJ must’ve sensed it, because he said, “Fair enough. Um, I’ll catch up with you later,” and walked away.
Jordan’s stare stayed fixed on his locker. “Don’t give me that look, Marisa.”
I folded my arms across my chest. “What the hell was that about on Saturday? You told me you wanted me at the bonfire, then totally blew me off. How am I supposed to look at you?”
He slung his bag over his shoulder and threw his other hand in the air. “It’s not that I changed my mind about wanting to be friends, okay? It’s like you said – I didn’t know how to react. Things have been shitty for so long that I forgot how to be normal around you. I’m sorry, all right?”
My comeback, “Sorry is a good word for you,” would’ve been awesome – if I’d had a chance to deliver it. But at that exact moment, my cell phone rang. And since a phone rarely rings with good news at 7:30 a.m., my attention was instantly diverted to the screen flashing Charlie’s name.
I stepped into the exit alcove and barely got a hello out before she said, “Sorry to bother you, but we need to talk. You’re advertising now?”
“Advertising what?”
“I’m hanging up to text you something. Call me as soon as you see it.”
The call clicked off before I could say another word. I was still staring confusedly at the screen when it flashed with a text message. Charlie had sent me a link to a website. When I clicked on it, my heart went dead inside my chest.
A website loaded onto the screen. The word BUSTED splashed across the top of the page in bold, fat letters, glinting in red and black stripes, almost identical to the pin I’d made for Charlie. The pin Kendall had specifically mentioned liking. A squat exclamation point punctuated the word, and a jagged split between the S and T made it – along with the heart around it – appear broken in half.
Beneath the heading, in smaller print, it said Don’t hate the player… bust his ass!
This had to be a joke. Only one person could’ve been responsible for this, and I knew exactly who it was.
I called Charlie back, crushing the phone against my ear as I dashed toward the computer lab. My phone was too old and too slow, and the school’s cell service was too spotty to mess around.
You’re shitting me,” I said when she picked up. I didn’t so much sit as crash-land in one of the lab’s plastic blue chairs, and my book bag skidded across the floor and toppled over.
So you didn’t know?”
I pulled the website up on the computer and scanned the page as fast as my brain could process it. “’Suspect your guy has a roaming eye? Our services are discreet, anonymous, and affordable.’” I almost dropped the phone. “She’s advertising me for a fee?!”
“Keep reading. It gets worse.”
“Oh my God!” I moaned. “Fake testimonials? Is she on cra- oh my God. Oh. My. God.”
“Told you.”
I had reached the spot where Kendall provided contact information for my quote-unquote “services.” She’d listed the email address as OnTheMAP17@yahoo.com.
MAP. Marisa Ann Palmera. Not only had she used my initials, she’d followed them with my freaking birth date. Who the hell had taught her the definition of anonymous? To think, earlier this morning I’d felt bad for her. Not anymore.
Do you want me to throw a bag over her head and take her out behind the bleachers? Teach her a little lesson?” I could practically hear Charlie’s knuckles cracking.
Don’t bother,” I said. “I’m going to kill her myself.”
